Who the Hell is James Dobson, Gary Bauer et all?

I’ll tell you who they are. Dobson is the head of an organization called “Focus on Family,” www.family.org, and Bauer is the head of an organization called “Our American Values,” www.ouramericanvalues.org. Both of these groups have been categorized as “evangelical Christian” groups. What they seem to want you to do, at least in this blogger’s opinion, is forget that the United States Constitution talks about separation of church and state.

They along with the Reverend Jesse Jackson and Reverend Al Sharpton want religion to lead you all-not only to the promised land-but to their political candidate of choice.

In the case of the “evangelicals,” if you are not pure enough of thought and agree with their litmus test, you do not get to pass go or get their endorsement for President. (True confession here, I’m for Rudy.)

We have big issues facing this country like the war in Iraq, the economy and Social Security. Both the Republican party and the Democratic party need to stand up to these folks. None of them have ever been elected to a damn thing but they insist that all candidates must pass muster. I for one would like to vote for somebody who does not pander to these folks and their oversized egos who talk about the Republic like they own it BUT don’t seem to have read the United States Constitution. I respectfully note the following excerpt:

Article. VI.
“All Debts contracted and Engagements entered into, before the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be as valid against the United States under this Constitution, as under the Confederation.

This Constitution, and the Laws of the United States which shall be made in Pursuance thereof; and all Treaties made, or which shall be made, under the Authority of the United States, shall be the supreme Law of the Land; and the Judges in every State shall be bound thereby, any Thing in the Constitution or Laws of any State to the Contrary notwithstanding.

The Senators and Representatives before mentioned, and the Members of the several State Legislatures, and all executive and judicial Officers, both of the United States and of the several States, shall be bound by Oath or Affirmation, to support this Constitution; but no religious Test shall ever be required as a Qualification to any Office or public Trust under the United States.”

Please note the last sentence it’s quite important.

You are right on the money on this one!

You, like most of the “liberal left” are tying to make a “boogey man” out of evangelical Christians (eC). One thing you allude to in the blog is that “Dobson, Bauer et ‘all’ (SP?)” are rather opinionated.

That’s the one thing you might have gotten “right” with this one. Ask an eC what their views are on a particular topic and you will get an answer. You may not like the answer - see the average eC’s answers relative to abortion (no), marriage (between a man and woman), homosexuality (no), Hillary being President (Hell No!) - but they will generally give you a Biblically-based black and white answer. No nuance. No “hems n haws.” No politically correct sound bite.

As our Great Nation turns their nose at the melting pot we once were and embraces this PC patchwork quilt nonsense it will be the eC’s that keep out country strong.

While eC’s believe strongly in a separation of church and state, (the Bible actually teaches Christians to be subservient to Gov’t) it doesn’t mean they have to be lapdogs to those that kill unborn babies, tax the citizenry into poverty, send our best and brightest off to die in foreign wars and force secular beliefs systems down the throat of our children.

    God Bless,
    Tree Hugger
